THE ROLE
Teach For America’s New York regional team seeks a Director, Talent Strategy to oversee regional hiring, onboarding and retention of our full-time staff. We are looking for an accomplished project manager who is poised to lead full-cycle recruitment for our regional team of nearly 50 full-time staff and dozens of part-time/ seasonal staff. This person has the opportunity to build a team of leaders who are committed to Teach For America's mission and New York's regional direction, and who embody our organizational core values and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.They will partner closely with hiring managers across the region to design and implement robust onboarding plans. Beyond hiring and onboarding, this person will design and implement some learning experiences for team members and the region as a whole. In addition to this, the Director, Talent Strategy partners closely with our Alumni and Community Affairs team to design and implement a talent matching strategy for our alumni in New York, to increase the number of alumni entering mission-aligned and high impact roles in the city. This person also liaises with our Programs team to consult on and help execute our corps member hiring process. A competitive candidate has experience as a talent recruiter, excels at influencing and motivating others, and is driven to tackle a complex and competitive NYC hiring landscape to help us excel at recruiting, selecting, onboarding and retaining exceptional talent.
THE PERSON
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Staff Recruitment (40%)
Oversee all aspects of talent recruitment and hiring, including:
Establish a clear profile for open roles and writing job descriptions
Advise regional hiring managers to maximize hiring outcomes for open roles
Source, cultivate, and recruit exceptional and diverse talent for all open roles on the New York regional team
Review applications and conduct initial interviews
Monitor, track, and report applicant status for various active open roles through Workday Recruiting
Own ongoing communicating with candidates and stakeholders
Design lean and efficient interview processes and scripts focused on collecting evidence and differentiating interview processes with hiring managers as needed
Laterally manage hiring managers to ensure a swift and positive interview experience
Create a culture where all staff engage in ongoing talent cultivation throughout the year
Ensure all hiring managers are trained in Teach For America’s hiring practices
Suggest, implement, and own strategic efficiencies in our hiring structure to improve the regional hiring process
Liaise with members of the national People Team to ensure smooth and seamless entering and exiting processes for all NY staff
Partner with members of the regional Programs team to recruit and hire seasonal staff to execute our summer teaching practicum facilitate in-year corps member learning experiences
Staff Onboarding and Retention (25%)
Work closely with hiring managers to support the design and implementation of regional staff onboarding processes and protocols, ensuring all new staff member onboarding steps are finalized correctly
Design and execute some elements of centralized regional onboarding
Design and facilitate learning experiences for subsets of the team and/ or full regional team (eg. facilitate professional learning communities for managers and administrative staff; design and facilitate some sessions for regional team meetings)
Build proactive strategies and systems to increase our staff experience, satisfaction and retention.
Alumni Talent Strategy (25%)
In coordination with MD, Alumni and Community Affairs and Director, Alumni Impact, implement the TFA NY alumni talent strategy
Establish relationships with hiring and talent managers at partner schools and partner organizations to foster intentional pathways to employment opportunities in key positions
With guidance from Director, Learning and Development, support alumni and 2CMs looking for sector-based support and learning as they transition into post corps roles
Leverage TFA Connect BETA as a resource for talent matching
Team-wide Responsibilities (10%)
Support planning and participate in all-staff (region and organization-wide) activities and events such as selection, confirmation, strategic planning and all-staff meetings
THE MUST HAVES
Prior experience
Minimum of five years of work experience required
At least two years of full-cycle recruitment strongly preferred
Experience working in Workday strongly preferred
Skill and enthusiasm for designing and facilitating group learning experiences a plus
Experience and enthusiasm for engaging in conversations around race, class, and privilege across lines of difference
Previous experience working in education in NYC and/or Teach For America corps experience a plus
Work Demands
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Ability to attend in-person events in New York beginning June 2022 (with the option for sooner)

Education
Bachelor’s degree required
