Company Description The National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International (NCBA CLUSA) is the trade association for cooperative businesses in the United States and an international development organization. NCBA CLUSA provides cross-sector education, technical assistance, and advocacy that helps co-ops thrive. NCBA CLUSA’s USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer program sends American farmers and agribusiness professionals on 2-4 week agricultural development assignments, promoting sustainable growth and agricultural development worldwide. Volunteer technical assistance from U.S. farmers, agribusinesses, cooperatives and universities helps smallholder farmers in developing countries improve productivity, access new markets and conserve environmental and natural resources. Job Description

NCBA CLUSA is currently seeking a qualified Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer candidate for the position of Coffee Export Strategist to support Asociación de Productores Selva Nororiental (APROSELVANOR), based in Moyobamba, Peru. APROSELVANOR is an association dedicated to the production, processing and retail of green coffee to national and international markets. They have previously received marketing and branding technical assistance, which has significantly impacted their operation. They aim to develop a strong export strategy to conduct direct trade contracts. This includes knowledge of international requirements (preferably USA and Europe), INCOTERMS use, pricing, negotiations, and other topics that the volunteer considers relevant for better performance of this activity.

Duration: 2 weeks in September 2020 (Due to the global impact of COVID-19, Farmer-to-Farmer volunteerassignments are tentatively scheduled to restartsummer 2020)

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

- Work in collaboration with the association to develop an export; designate roles and responsibilities, timeline for execution complete with tasks, etc.
- Train participants on coffee contracts; types, clauses, requirements and conditions, most used INCOTERMS.
- Teach participants to conduct negotiations and contract writing to sell coffee.
- The volunteer will teach participants about development of a commercialization strategy.

Qualifications

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree in international trade, economics, business or related field
- Background in food and beverage (F&B) wholesale, retail and commodity sales in global markets.
- Experience in global coffee trading and working with cooperatives is desired.
- Previous work as a barista is a plus
- Available for virtual communications with Host Organization
- Candidate must be legally able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Advanced Spanish is a plus (However a translator will be available if needed)
